About Me

I graduated with my BA in Human Services in 2001 at California State University in Fullerton. I received extensive education, training and experience in counseling theory and techniques as it applies to individual and group therapy settings.  From 2000 to 2004, I worked at a residential drug treatment facility for adults while I earned an MA in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University.  I have also worked with children and families both in home and in outpatient settings.  I became a mother in 2008 and 2010 to two wonderful children who continue to teach me more about life, love, and the human condition more than any college course ever could.

am a licensed counselor in North Carolina (LCMHC). I am also an ACE certified Personal Trainer that is strongly Health At Every Size (HAES) aligned with an emphasis on body acceptance and an anti-diet philosophy.

Treatment Approaches

I’ve been influenced by many counseling theories over the years, but I resonate the most with Person-Centered Therapy which emphasizes the relationship between therapist and client as more of a partnership.

From this approach, I believe that clients already have the wisdom to create the changes they want. My job is then to assist clients by creating a safe space and helping remove obstacles that get in their way of accessing wisdom.  I listen with compassion and reflect your strengths and resiliency along the way.

This framework is where I begin. However, in some situations, a more directive approach can be useful, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  It teaches us skills that can be used to gain a clear understanding of ourselves, create the kinds of change we want in our emotions and behaviors, and manage life’s stressors, both big and small.
